Learn to Knit Kit FAQs
Can young children learn to knit?
(from Kari)
I've found that second grade, or about 7 years old, is a good starting age for new knitters.
Some precocious younger children will pick up knitting earlier than age 7.
But crochet, weaving, latch hook, and needlepoint are excellent introductions to the fiber arts for very young children.
Will knitting hurt my hands?
Absolutely, emphatically no!
Knitting and needlework is often prescribed to arthritis patients and those recovering from surgery, as a way to exercise the small muscles in the fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.
If your wrists feel achy or stiff while knitting, there are several solutions.
- Stretch your fingers and hands and do gentle wrist rolls before each session
- Limit your knitting sessions to about 30 minutes at first
- Do your best to relax your shoulder and neck muscles while knitting
- Consider wearing compression gloves to support your hands

The Spinning Hand Story
Like so many new mothers, I wanted to learn to knit and make baby sweaters for my newborn son. This was back in 2003: before YouTube, before Facebook, can you imagine?!
I remember vividly the feelings of frustration and helplessness, trying to interpret cryptic instructions and complicated illustrations.
At the Spinning Hand we're dedicated to helping you along your knitting and crocheting journeys, every stitch of the way. (See what we did there?)
Only gorgeous yarn, reliable tools, and crystal-clear instructions will suffice for our everything-is-included crafting kits.
